James Hollingshead

During the summer break at the University of Cambridge, James volunteered with Mondo through HELP, Mondo’s partner organisation in Nepal. For several weeks he taught English in Ichowk and visited several other schools in the area, followed by a trek. On returning to Cambridge, James worked with other volunteers to set up the CU HELP society to maintain links with Helambu and provide a steady stream of volunteers and resources. He has remained in contact with HELP and Mondo and joined Mondo as a trustee in 2022.

“I was particularly struck by the stunning landscapes and natural beauty of Nepal – which stands in stark contrast to the sometimes limited opportunities available in rural communities.  That said, the community was so welcoming, and the desire to learn English and interact with volunteers was so strong, it was obvious that with just a small amount of support there was huge potential for improved prospects.  Spending time in the schools and the local area was extremely rewarding and I still reflect fondly on the memories made. I’m very excited and proud to now be able to assist Mondo as a trustee.”
